Welcome to the Project!

Greetings! If you’ve gotten this far it means you have an interest in how libraries and other community anchor institutions can use TV WhiteSpace to extend the reach of services in their communities. That interest is the driving force behind the "Beyond the Walls" Project.

Indeed! Thanks to the vision and generosity of the Institute of Museum and Library Services(IMLS), we can now conduct a national exploration of how integrating the near universal compatibility of WiFi with the range and penetrating capabilities of TV White Space (TVWS) equipment can increase availability and convenience of library WiFi at new access points Beyond the Walls!

You’re invited to join the Project (especially!) as applicant, as supporter, or as observer following developments.

For applicants, find background on the Project page and especially the Preliminary Checklist items on the Resource Hub page. Once you’ve determined you meet the requirements, initiate your registration with a first draft plan/idea. You can update it ongoing or until the first round deadline on March 6, 2017.

Take the self-paced course to delve into what exactly is TV WhiteSpace and how it can help your library extend services into new places and spaces around the community.

Winning proposals will show creativity in thinking of new ways and locations to install remote library WiFi access points. They will also demonstrate an ability to collaborate with other anchor institutions like schools, health clinics, community centers, post offices, shelters or who?! Winners will also show commitment to the Project from proposal partners and supporters as well as to overall learning and knowledge base we’ll be creating together.

Still with us? Have questions? Ideas? Great! Let’s explore the capabilities this very cool and very valuable new wireless resource!
